Valparaiso Police Department Sets Traffic Details for Popcorn Fest

Many traffic restrictions will be taking place on Saturday morning due to the annual Popcorn Festival. Traffic restrictions will begin late Friday night in the downtown area and by 7 p.m. Saturday morning full restrictions will be in place due to the Popcorn Panic.

Detours for the city for traffic traveling from the west will include Joliet Road to Coolwood to U.S. 30 for the southern part of the city or to Froberg Rd to Ransom Rd back to Campbell St. if you are attempting to get to the northside of the city. Most of the restrictions will be occurring in the downtown area and the northwest side of the city for the Popcorn Panic. The Popcorn Panic should be completed by 9:30 a.m.

The Popcorn Parade will begin at 10 a.m. and roadways will begin to close at 9:15 a.m. in the area of Calumet Ave from Beech St to Harrison Ave. The entire parade route will be closed beginning at 9:45 a.m. The parade route again will begin at Bush St. and travel SB on Calumet/Morgan Ave to Lincolnway and then WB on Lincolnway to Campbell St and then NB on Campbell St to Park Ave. (Ben Franklin Middle School).

Police Increasing Traffic Patrols During Festival Detours
Valparaiso Police will be increasing patrols and monitoring detour routes through neighborhoods during the Popcorn Festival.

Due to the increase in traffic from motorists traveling through residential neighborhoods as a result of roadway closers from the Popcorn Festival, police officers will be monitoring traffic and stopping motorists that speed, disregard stop signs and drive recklessly.
