“Everyone was born with the ability to make a make a difference in somebody’s life,” said Leigh Anne Tuohy speaking to the capacity crowd at the 14th Annual Women’s Tea hosted by the Porter County Community Foundation last week.
“Giving will change your life,” declared Tuohy as she talked about her family’s own calling to turn around and make a difference. She is the inspirational matriarch of the Tuohy family whose life was chronicled by Michael Lewis in his best-selling book, The Blind Side. The movie, The Blind Side, went on to become a Hollywood blockbuster.
Tuohy’s words resonated with the audience of women who were in attendance to raise money for the Women’s Fund of Porter County and celebrate the success of the Impact Porter County giving circle. She challenged the women to step out of their comfort zone and make a difference on some level for someone else. “Community Foundations are offering chances every day,” said Tuohy.
The annual Women’s Tea evolved into Impact Porter County women’s giving circle beginning in 2007. “Since then, we have given away over $350,000 to support programs for women and children in Porter County,” said Barb Young, President of the Foundation and Impact member. “And together we have built the Women’s Fund, a lasting endowment that now exceeds $610,000 to ensure that there will be resources available to help women and children for many generations to come.”
