Valpo-Police-Preparing-for-Winter-Months-01The Valparaiso Police Department recently added seven new Ford Explorers to their fleet of police vehicles. The new addition of all wheel drive vehicles (4x4) brings the total number of four wheel drive vehicles or all wheel drive vehicles to twenty in their police fleet.

In recent years, the winter months within the region, have caused havoc for officers attempting to respond to calls after and during large snow falls or other inclement weather. Officer’s with non-four wheel drive vehicles would routinely get stuck or have difficulty responding to a call. The larger vehicles also provide increase safety and more storage for the large amount of equipment issued to officers.

We have done a lot of research and through that research learned the four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles are safer, better for storage, better on maintenance and better prepares officers to respond to incidents during inclement weather,” explained Police Chief Michael Brickner.
