Allison Andersen Joins Recycling District

allisonandersenOnce a teacher in the Valparaiso Community Schools, Allison Andersen was introduced to the Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County through a brochure and resulting class visit by Abe Paluch, district educator, who presented the program “Wonderful Worms.”

As the new assistant educator for the district, Andersen has switched roles and will represent the district and present environmental programs in schools.

“I’m looking forward to helping others catch the fever of going green,” Andersen said.

Andersen will help Paluch expand the district’s programming reach in schools throughout Porter County. Paluch alone reaches more than 6,000 students each year.

The district’s array of free interactive programs for kindergarten through 12th grades complements school curriculums and meets Indiana State Academic standards. Programs include Edible Landfill; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink; Water Watchers; Lovely Ladybugs; Pollution Tunnel; Garbology; and more.

“Allison will help us meet demand,” said Therese Davis, district executive director. “We are excited to have this experienced educator on our team.”

Andersen enjoys working with children. She taught in Valpo schools for 11 years and has been a tutor for 15 years. She and her husband Rick live in Valparaiso.
