Indiana State Police and Valparaiso Police Partner to Improve Safety on State Road 49

police-memorial-2014-threeOn March 9th the Valparaiso Police and Indiana State Police began working targeted patrols, within the city limits, along State Road 49 after a serious bodily injury crash occurred at State Road 49 and 500 N involving a semi-tractor trailer and passenger car.

Valparaiso Police and the Indiana State Police combined to worked numerous targeted patrols through the time period of March 9th thru March 25th.

The patrols were conducted during the morning, afternoon and evening hours of the day. The patrols resulted in a total of 142 traffic stops, from those stops, 68 traffic citations were issued, mostly for speeding or disregarding a traffic signal. From the 142 traffic stops, State Police conducted 42 semi-tractor trailer inspections while on a traffic stop. From the 42 truck inspections 4 semi-tractor trailers where taken out of service due to safety issues.

Valparaiso Police Officers worked many patrols using grant funding from the Governor’s Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving/Operation Pull Over.

Valparaiso Police and the Indiana State Police are committed to improving the safety for motorists along State Road 49. Targeted patrols will continue along State Road 49 as needed.
