Applications for South Shore Clean Cities Summer Internship Due April 24, 2015

sscc-iA college student studying business, communications, engineering, environmental science, marketing or public relations could earn up to $6,000 during a 10-week summer internship for a nonprofit organization sponsored through a U.S. Department of Energy program.

The Summer 2015 U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities University Workforce Development Program is funding almost 40 positions in Clean Cities coalitions across the United States, including one for northern Indiana-based South Shore Clean Cities Inc.

The application process is conducted online at http://www.cvent.com/d/5rq1fw, concluding April 24. Applicants must be college juniors, seniors, graduate students or graduated for less than one year. The position is for 30 or 40 hours per week between June 1 and August 14.

Carl Lisek, executive director of South Shore Clean Cities and vice president of Purdue Research Park-based Legacy Environmental Services Inc., said the intern will take on key responsibilities for the organization.

"South Shore Clean Cities personnel, including the summer intern, promote the benefits of alternative fuels and clean vehicle technologies that could reduce the region's dependence on petroleum," he said. "Our marketing reach includes organizing and attending dozens of events across the state and maintaining communication with our members and supporters through social media, radio broadcasts and electronic newsletters. An intern funded through this program will be integral in helping us meet our goals."

According to South Shore Clean Cities, northern Indiana government agencies, municipalities, companies and nonprofit administrations across 18 counties reduced gasoline consumption by 10,588,552 gallons and greenhouse gas emissions by 63,562 tons during 2013.
