Visiting Nurse Association to Sell Home Health Program to New Owners

rot1For nearly 45 years, the Visiting Nurse Association has served the residents of Porter County and surrounding areas, often when needed most, creating a precious community-based support system based on trust, compassion, personalized care and dignity. Today, Rick Rhew, President & CEO of the VNA on behalf of the Board of Directors, announced that the organization has signed a definitive agreement to sell the VNA’s home health care program, including skilled nursing care and therapy, to Porter Health Care System Home Health. The transaction is expected to close this summer.

The VNA of Porter County will continue to provide hospice care, both in the patient’s home, as well as facility based and inpatient hospice care at the VNA Hospice Center. The VNA will also continue to provide Meals on Wheels and other support services, in addition to operating the children’s grief program at the VNA Phoenix Center.

The sale of the Home Health division represents an evolution of the marketplace, said Rhew. “The landscape of healthcare has changed so dramatically that the VNA Board of Directors determined its best role in continuing to serve the community is by strengthening and growing its care in home based and facility based hospice care, and our other support services,” Rhew said.

Rhew said the proceeds from the sale will be transferred to the VNA Foundation and will be specifically dedicated to the expansion and enhancement of those services. The name will remain the same while the Board of Directors goes through an extensive strategic planning process to chart a specific course for the future. The VNA will retain ownership of all real estate and buildings.

As the transaction moves toward closing, VNA and Porter Health Care System Home Health will work together to ensure a seamless transition so patient care can continue without interruption.
