Valparaiso Launches New Downtown App

valpo-new-appThe City of Valparaiso has refreshed its smartphone app presenting an interactive calendar of all downtown events, along with a handy map of downtown venues and even pinpoints for things like ATMs and parking. “There’s so much to do downtown and this handy, free app makes it easy for people to find something fun on any day of the week,” said Dan McGuire, Director of Special Projects & Event Operations for Parks.

Find the new, free app by searching on your smartphone’s app store for “Valparaiso Downtown.” The app features a complete calendar of events for all downtown venues, including Central Park Plaza, the Memorial Opera House, Chicago Street Theatre, the Porter County Public Library, downtown restaurants, and more. “Now is a great time to download the new app. We’ve got the complete Popcorn Festival schedule up so you can keep track of what’s coming up in real time,” said McGuire. The app can also help alert you to any current road closures or other city alerts.

Valparaiso has become a community of choice for its downtown events, particularly since the opening of Central Park Plaza in 2011. “The expansion of Central Park Plaza and upcoming opening of skating at the William E. Urschel Pavilion mean that our events will extend to year round. This app helps people to enjoy all the city has to offer,” said Bill Oeding, City Administrator.
