To commemorate Earth Day, NIPSCO has awarded 14 grants totaling $50,000 through a new environmental grant to support local nonprofit organizations with environmental initiatives. The goal of NIPSCO’s Environmental Action Grant is to provide funding for restoration and education projects throughout northern Indiana.
"We received nearly 50 applications, all with very worthwhile projects and programs that build upon this region’s local environmental assets” said Larry Graham, managing director of public affairs. “We believe the funded projects will contribute toward enhancing a local quality of life and provide great value to northern Indiana residents.”
“These grants leverage and extend the environmental work we’re already doing with renewable energy, improving air quality, reforestation and restoration,” said Kelly Carmichael, environmental vice president for NiSource.
Grant recipients include:
- Friends of Robinson Lake in Hobart for shoreline stabilization
- Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center in Chesterton for environmental education
- La Porte County Conservation Trust for restoration at McCloskey Wetlands
- La Porte County Soil and Water Conservation District for Michigan City’s Trail Creek Week
- Martin T. Krueger Middle School in Michigan City for prairie restoration
- Martin Luther King Montessori School in Fort Wayne for an outdoor classroom
- NICHES Land Trust in Carroll County for Moyer Gould Woods Habitat restoration
- Northwest Indiana Paddling Association in Valparaiso for Little Calumet River East Branch

- Save the Dunes Conservation Fund in Michigan City for 2016 Dunes Blowout: A Festival Of Performance and Ecology
