The Porter County Community Foundation Presents Grant to Reins of Life

Porter-County-Community-Foundation-2016Reins of Life, Michigan City, was awarded a Community Fund grant from the Porter County Community Foundation. The grant funds benefited the nonprofit organization by providing the necessary resources to have a brand new roof put on their 16-stall barn.

Reins of Life provides therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with disabilities to help improve their quality of life; many of these riders travel from Porter County to take advantage of this unique therapy. Over 130 riders, ranging from age 3 to 73, visit Reins of Life each week, benefitting physically, cognitively, and socially from this impactful program. Therapeutic horseback riding allows the rider to achieve not only improvements in posture, muscle tone, coordination and balance, but it also brings about a new-found confidence and sense of freedom.

The Foundation seeks to improve lives in Porter County by providing funds through an open grant making process for humanitarian, cultural, educational and environmental purposes.
