$12,000 Grant Awarded to Sheriff’s Department for Second Substance Abuse Video

Recently, a grant was awarded to the Porter County Sheriff’s Department to provide the funds to produce “Heroin: Not a Problem, An Epidemic Part 2”. The grant was provided by proceeds from the Chefs Around the Table Fundraiser last fall.

The original video “Heroin: Not a Problem, An Epidemic” has over 60,000 views and has continuously been shared online. “Education and prevention is the most important way to combat the heroin epidemic in Porter County,” said Sheriff David Reynolds.

According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Department, there were 74 heroin overdoses in 2016, with 13 of those resulting in death. With the production of the second video, the Sheriff’s department hopes it will play a part in raising awareness of the heroin problem that is plaguing the community.

Chefs Around the Table is an annual fundraiser. All proceeds from the event support programs to build strong families and reduce substance abuse throughout Porter County. The event consists of over 75 gentlemen chefs from around the community cooking up their favorite dish for guests to taste. The event is held at the Porter County Expo Center and will take place this year on Thursday, October 12th. To support the cause and attend the event, tickets may be purchased online at www.chefsaroundthetable2017.eventbrite.com
