Two Valparaiso Officers Promoted to Captain

Two-Valparaiso-Officers-Promoted-to-Captain-08-23-17The Valparaiso Police Department is announcing two officers who have been promoted to the rank of Captain. As a result of recent retirements and the appointments of Chief of Police Jeff Balon and Assistant Chief Michael DeHaven two additional officers have been promoted.

Lt. Brian McDonald and Lt. David Richardson have been promoted to the rank of Captain effective immediately. Captain McDonald will supervise the Investigation Division with the department and Captain Richardson will supervise the Patrol Division within the department.

Brian is a 24 year veteran of the department. He holds an Associate Degree in Public Affairs from Indiana University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Society/Sociology from Purdue University. He is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership Academy. He previously was assigned to the Patrol Division as a Patrol Lieutenant.

David is a 21 year veteran of the department. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training and Criminal Justice from Ball State University. He is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership Academy. He is a previous Field Training Officer, Porter County SWAT Team Member and Law Enforcement Instructor. He previously was assigned to the Patrol Division as a Patrol Lieutenant.

Both throughout their careers have been awarded Supervisor of the Year Awards from the Valparaiso Police Department’s FOP Lodge 76.
