Spring Master Recycler Program to Begin March 29, 2018

Spring-Master-Recycler-Program-to-Begin-March-29-2018Why are some materials recyclable at the curb and others aren’t? When waste haulers take trash and recyclables away, what happens to those materials?

The spring Porter County Master Recycler class is primed to answer these questions and more, helping students gain environmental knowledge beyond their curbside recycling totes while having fun and meeting others with similar interests.

The comprehensive program is scheduled from 6-8:30 p.m. on six Thursdays between March 29 and May 17, at the Porter County Community Foundation, 1401 Calumet Ave., Valparaiso.

The course will feature experts in their fields who will provide instruction on waste flow processes, recycling, household hazardous waste, water resource management, vermicomposting and backyard composting. Three optional Tuesday field trips are also a highlight of the spring program.

Sponsored by the Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County, the course is open to Porter County residents and those who work in the county.

Anyone interested in participating can apply online at www.PorterCountyRecycling.org. The program syllabus is also available online.

A fee of $30 will help defray the cost of course materials and transportation. Class participants commit to 30 hours of volunteer time to educate and inspire others in their community to reduce waste in the home and at work.

The program is limited to 30 participants. For more information, visit www.PorterCountyRecycling.org or call 465-3819.
