Students from both campuses are encouraged to sign up for one or more of three shifts throughout the day and help contribute to a cleaner and more attractive community.

Volunteers may work one or more of three shifts: 8 a.m. until 10:25 a.m., 10:50 a.m. until 1:15 p.m., and 1:40 p.m. until 4 p.m. Food and refreshment breaks will occur between shifts. Lunch and refreshments will be donated by Ivy Tech Chancellor Lupe Valtierra.

City of Gary General Services Director Michael Shell is providing dumpsters for the cleanup effort. SAAB is also accepting donations of gloves, garbage bags and other necessary materials for the project.

For more information, or to volunteer for a shift, contact James Wallace at jamewall@iun.edu, or phone him at (219) 980-6601.

SAAB is an organization that brings together college students of color with their peers and mentors to provide them with knowledge, insight, assistance, and encouragement as they work toward personal, academic and professional goals. SAAB’s motto is: “I am my brother’s keeper and together we will rise.”

The IU Northwest/Ivy Tech SAAB chapter is the only dual chapter out of approximately 200 chapters nationwide.
