Habitat for Humanity of Porter County Provides More with ReStore Location

Habitat for Humanity of Porter County has been doing excellent work in the community with their home and ramp builds. Now, to help further their work and goals, they’ve opened a Habitat for Humanity ReStore location in Valparaiso!

For those unfamiliar with the ReStore locations, these are retail outlets that sell new or gently used building materials. The materials are acquired through donations made by individuals, corporations, and contractors, and are available for others to purchase at a discounted price. The money raised goes toward furthering their goals in the community and continuing the building projects that are underway.

"ReStore allows us to extend our reach to more people," said Nicole Batista, Treasurer of the Board. "The store is still new but we hope that eventually it will allow us to build additional homes for people in need."

The new location is at 704 Silhavy Road, and is accepting donations and shoppers alike. Open from 9am to 6pm, Tuesday through Saturday, the new store has plenty to offer. From new building materials to gently used furniture, it’s a great place for anyone starting a project to check out! Landlords, contractors, or those starting out on a DIY project have the chance to find great products at a lower price just by stopping in!

Donating or purchasing from a Habitat for Humanity ReStore location is an opportunity to make positive change in the community. For one, donating or purchasing gently used items is environmentally friendly and reduces the amount of waste in landfills. Additionally, purchases help Habitat for Humanity of Porter County continue their mission to provide affordable housing options for hard working residents!

"Habitat for Humanities gives families in need a hand up and not a hand out," Batista said. "We're helping less fortunate individuals get into a house and find a place they can call home."

Acceptable donations to the store include new or gently used furniture, appliances, lawn care equipment, or other building supplies and home accessories. Once received, these are sold to the community for a fraction of retail price, giving community members a chance for great products, while also furthering Habitat for Humanity of Porter County’s mission.

'ReStore is for a great cause and is a great place to pick up your nails, rope, or other items you may need. It's dual purpose. You can find something great there but you're also giving back," Batista said.
