Benson Picked as New Dunes Learning Center Executive Director

Geof-BensonThe Dunes Learning Center Board of Directors is pleased to announce their unanimous decision to appoint Geof Benson as Executive Director effective February 19th.

Benson's executive leadership and professional management experience spans several decades and includes governmental, business and non-profit organizations. Immediate past chair of the Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC), Benson will continue as commissioner and chair their Environmental Management Policy Committee. He is president of the Beverly Shores Town Council, vice chair of the Lake Michigan Marina and Shoreline Development Commission, and co-chair of the Environmental Committee of the National Association of Regional Councils on which he serves as District VI representative (MN, WI, IL, IN).

He has served in leadership roles on many community and non-profit organizations including Save the Dunes, and Child Care Consortium.

While leading Geof Benson Music he provided music, audio and sound effects for commercials, films and digital media in Chicago. He is a licensed soccer coach and has assisted Chesterton High School for four years.

Benson attended Webster University where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in theory/composition. He lives in Beverly Shores, Indiana.

Dunes Learning Center (DLC) is a non-profit residential environmental education facility operating in partnership with Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, a unit of the National Park Service.
