Free Festival Celebrates 80 Years at Sunset Hill Farm

Sunset-Hill-FallThis July marks the 80th Anniversary of Sunset Hill Farm County Park. What began as a local family farm has transformed over the years into one of our County’s top outdoor getaways for individuals to explore and enjoy through 238 acres of trails, fields, forest, farmland, facilities and more.

To celebrate all that Sunset Hill Farm has brought to our communities, Porter County Parks & Recreation will host a free festival on Saturday, July 26 from 11-3 p.m. at the park located at 775 Meridian in Valparaiso. “The goal of the festival is to bring together individuals that have had any tie to the farm and park over the years while also creating a family friendly event to welcome new visitors who will be part of the parks future” stated Dana Yake, communications director for Porter County Parks.

The festival will host a museum featuring artifacts and photographs of the park over the years along with a video presentation on how the farm has developed into the County Park it is today. The department will also honor Art Willing and the Willing family as well as Lloyd and Ethel Prosser and the Prosser family for their contributions to the farm and park throughout its history.

In addition there will be a variety of activities for families and visitors of all ages including face painting, crafts and games, as well as a historic baseball game starting at noon featuring the Deep River Grinders and the Sunset Hill Colonels. For more information visit www.portercountyparks.org
