2014 Family House Fundraiser Hosts BBQ

Central Park Plaza was filled with the aroma of a good old fashioned BBQ on Friday night for the 2014 Family House Fundraiser. This years fundraiser provided food, music, a corn-hole tournament, and some high end giveaways for a night in support of the Family House.

Family House has been in operation since 1981. It is a safe home-like environment for parents and families to spend time with their children under supervision. This is typically used in cases of non-custodial parents or folks that working out problems and need a safe place to see their children.

Executive Director at Family House, Chris Kostbade explained the importance of raising money for the Family House. “A lot of people drive by and don’t know about our little gem, and what we do there. Fundraisers like this offset the cost of the visits for families by allowing us to help them with scholarships. We are all about, and have always been about serving the kids.”

When guests arrived to the event, they were given tickets that got them a selection of pork from local restaurants, Don Quijote and The Valley. “We provided a pig to Don Quijote and The Valley, and they have made a dish out of it,” Kostbade said. Once both dishes were tried, guests could vote on which one they like the best. Winners got bragging rights for the best pork dish.

Music for the night was provided by The Rockaholics and Midwest Mike, who did an impressive Elvis impersonation. There was also a line of corn-hole games set up for a tournament that was happening throughout the event.

Martin Binder Jeweler had a raffle set up that provided the chance to win some awesome prizes. They donated a $500 value item that was hidden in a pile of boxes. Guests could buy a ticket and pick a box in hopes of picking the right one. There was also a raffle for a $1,100 diamond pennant that Martin Binder Jeweler generously donated.

“This is a great event. It is important for the community to have an organization like this and we are happy to support it,” President of Martin Binder Jeweler, Bob Flude said.

Although the weather was a little unpredictable, The Family House was still able to host a fun event that helped benefit the great work that they continue to do for the families in the community.
