Folks from all the over the community filtered in between six in the morning to one in the afternoon to enjoy a fabulous breakfast and awesome companionship.

Having started in 1952, Pancake Day is a key tradition in Valparaiso, and has grown so large that over 2,500 people attend every year! The fundraiser is Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis's largest of the year, with all proceeds going back to those needing any kind of support. They place a large emphasis on children in need, and give several scholarships while providing assistance and aiding local organizations. There is very little they haven't been involved with in our community!

According to Pancake Day Committee Chair, Scott Carlson, there is something special about Pancake Day. "It's truly a collaborative effort of our community coming together to HELP our community," Carlson told Ideas In Motion Media. "It's a great opportunity for neighbors to get together and catch up with each other after a long winter over a delicious pancake breakfast!"

The best part about the day besides the delicious pancakes? Any and every age has something to enjoy! There are prizes, musical entertainment, a kids play area sponsored by the Valparaiso High School Key Club, and even cotton candy! As veteran Pancake Day participants come back year after year, there continues to be new, exciting things for them to enjoy.

Abie Mwuara, member of the Valparaiso Key Club, loves being a part of Pancake Day every year, especially when her assignment is to the kids area! "This is my third year at the breakfast," Mwuara said. "And I love coming back! The pancakes are awesome, and it's really great how you can come back and get seconds, thirds, as much as you want! Getting to interact with the kids in the Key Club's children's section is just another bonus."

Based upon on the smiles of kids receiving face paint and cotton candy, and parents enjoying their coffee and pancakes, it's safe to say that Pancake Day 2015 was yet another success. With people in attendance from all over Porter County, Kiwanis succeeded in not only bringing one community together, but several!

We look forward to Pancake Day next year!
