Officers Receive Awards and Recognition at City Council Meeting

officers-honoredOn Monday night, during a City Council Meeting, three officers from the Valparaiso Police Department received awards for going above and beyond the call of duty. One additional officer was recognized for his effort in an attempt to save a baby that had stopped breathing.

Chief Michael Brickner presented Officer Chris Allison with two Honorable Mention Awards. One for locating and arresting individuals who were in the progress of stealing nearly $10,000 in auto parts from local dealerships. On another occasion Officer Allison, through different informants, located and arrested an individual who had stolen a vehicle.

Chief Brickner presented Officers Michael Trueblood and Ryan Sobierajski the department’s Life Saving Award. Both officers responded to a call of a subject having difficulty breathing. Shortly after arriving on scene, the subject stopped breathing and on two separate occasions officers initiated chest compression on the individual and he was transported to the hospital a short time later. Both officer’s actions assisted with saving the individuals life.

Officer Ron Chapman was recognized for his recent effort to save a baby that was unresponsive upon his arrival. CPR was initiated by Officer Chapman and after a valued effort to save the child, he later died.
