Local Third Graders Reach Out to Needy Children

The Third grade class at Immanuel Lutheran School practiced the art of giving, by raising money to buy boots for underprivileged children in Porter County.

Each year the third grade students raise money to provide a Christmas gift to a ministry or organization,” said Dorothy Daiber, third grade teacher at Immanuel Lutheran School. “We decided to help provide boots to needy children, so that everyone could enjoy being out and about in our wintry weather.”

The students were asked to earn the money they donate by doing various chores at home. This helps the student learn the importance of working towards a goal and giving to others.

Any family in Porter County, not able to purchase boots for their elementary school child, should contact their school’s counselor.

Founded in 2004 by Erin Burton, Nicole Rossmann and Laura Steele, Mothers for Porter County Kids has provided new winter boots to over 2,200 children in our community. Mothers for Porter County Kids winter boot drive ran until December 19.
