Kiwanis Annual Pancake Day

Kiwanis hosted their annual pancake day at VHS, an event in which all the proceeds are given back to the community. With an average of $50,000 given back every year to kids, elderly, handicapped, families in need or those who need temporary assistance, pancake day is always one of the biggest successes thanks to the efforts of both Kiwanis and the Valpo school community.

Brenda Stamps, the bakery manager for the Valparaiso School Corporation, along with Patty Black-Gillins, arrived at 5:00 am to start cooking the never-ending feast of pancakes. It was Brenda’s first year helping out with the pancake day, but she already loved the event, saying, “I love the people of Kiwanis. They’ve made this smooth and fun.”

Patty had this to say about the Kiwanis staff, “This is my second year doing this, and everyone has been wonderful. We cater several large events every year, but this has easily become my favorite. I love working with them.”

The VHS Key Club attended as well, painting faces and playing games with the younger kids as part of the event. There was also live entertainment with a troupe of young violinists providing orchestral music for any who would listen.
