Day of Caring Projects to Brighten Up PCACS

United-Way-Day-of-CaringPorter County Aging and Community Services is seeking volunteers for its Day of Caring projects, which will help spruce up the building, grounds and parking lot.

The United Way’s Day of Caring on Aug. 26 brings together the community and not-for-profits for a day of volunteerism and hard work. The day begins with a breakfast provided by Strongbow Inn.

Kathy Wojkovich, director of the United Way Regional Volunteer Center, said the event is important because it exposes participants to area not-for-profits.

It’s an opportunity for teams that are from local businesses, civic groups or churches to ‘come through the doors’ and learn about the many programs participating agencies run that make our community a better place to live and work,” Wojkovich said.

PCACS is seeking volunteers for the following projects. Those wanting to participate can sign up at: www.nwivolunteer.org

In need of stripes: A machine will be provided for the team that will help stripe the parking lot for an expected half day of work.

Weed reduction: Volunteers can bring their tools to take down weeds and tall unwanted plants around the grounds for a full-day project.

Beautify building: For an expected half day of work, volunteers will power-wash peeling paint off the building. A home-owned power washer will be available but a professional washer would be better.

PCACS Executive Director Bruce Lindner looks to build on last year’s event, which was filled with the spirit of volunteerism. Sheriff David Lain and members of his department painted and helped put new plywood up on the building’s back canopy, trimmed bushes and moved bumpers in the parking lot.
