NIPSCO Workers Update Meter Reading System

Local NIPSCO employees were out early and working hard on a warm summer Wednesday morning as multiple NIPSCO trucks and workers were spotted outside the Ideas in Motion Media offices on Napoleon Street in Valparaiso.

The company and workers were doing their part in order to help improve the efficiency of their current meter reading system. The improvements in technology also helped NIPSCO accommodate new modern codes.

"NIPSCO is here and they're updating our meters to the new electronic meters, which will broadcast radio waves to their truck," Dave Vass of Vass Development Corporation said. "They're also updating the old meters and putting them on the outside of the building, which is more in line with modern code."

The new system will be easier and less time consuming because it allows NIPSCO's laborer to pull up to the building and find out how much gas was used by each tenant through radio waves. This eliminates the process of having the worker get out of his truck and walk from building to building to read each meter individually.

"I'm sure this is making their job much easier," Vass said.

NIPSCO is taking advantage of improvements in technology in order to speed up the process of reading meters. The company's employees were out working hard on Wednesday morning to help implement this new strategy. Their efforts help provide Valparaiso residents with the necessities of gas and electricity.
