Porter-Starke Foundation Seeks Volunteers for Annual Turkey Trot

On Thursday, November 22, Porter-Starke Services Foundation will host the 9th annual Valparaiso Turkey Trot 5K walk/run and 10K race. Last year, the race became the largest event of its kind in Northwest Indiana and is projected to grow to 3,000 participants this year. The Porter-Starke Services Foundation seeks volunteers to help on race day.

Volunteer opportunities on the day of the event include indoor positions, such as registration and set-up, as well as outdoor course positions, including water stops, course marshals, split timers and post event clean-up. The race begins at 8:00am and volunteers are typically expected to devote only two and a half to three hours of their time in the morning. Volunteer positions are also available the Wednesday before the event, including helping to set-up signage, packet pick-up and registration.

This is just another way that people can give back on Thanksgiving morning,” said Rocco Schiralli, President/CEO of Porter-Starke Services. “Each year, this race grows and we continue to need to more help to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the thousands of runners that come out to support health, balance and hope in our community,” said Schiralli.

If you’re interested in volunteering, a description of each volunteer position and the opportunity to register is available online at www.porterstarke.org.

Volunteers will be invited to attend one of two volunteer meetings on November 1, 2012.

All of these volunteer positions are important and we’re looking for as many volunteers as possible,” said Jessica McFadden, Foundation Coordinator.

The proceeds from the event benefit mental health and substance abuse treatment and prevention needs in our community.
