PNC Students Donate to Help Others Enjoy the Holidays

PNC-Students-DonateStudents in the Purdue University North Central Dean's Leadership Group continued their holiday tradition of providing Thanksgiving food baskets to ensure that other fellow students and their families enjoyed a comfortable family meal.

The Dean's Leadership Group (DLG) members spent the last few weeks raising money and collecting donations so that they could provide 14 food baskets that include a frozen turkey and the ingredients for a traditional Thanksgiving meal for a family of five. They were sure to include additional food so that the families had nutritious food items to last past Thanksgiving too.

One of the missions of the DLG is to help out on campus and in the community throughout the year. This is one of many projects the students will undertake.

Kara Moon is a Morgan Township High School graduate who helped to lead this year's food drive. She has been involved with the Thanksgiving food baskets each of her three years on campus. "It means a lot of us to help our PNC families have a nice thanksgiving meal," said Moon. "We feel it's important to help others in any way we can."

Student organizations also got involved with the English Club; Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society; the Business Leadership Society and Student Government all donating to help provide Thanksgiving meal essentials.

DLG members hosted bake sales and sold paper turkeys to generate money to purchase food items. A campus wide-food drive also generated donated canned goods and non-perishable items.

"It's great to be a part of this project to benefit our PNC families," said Sam Rogowski, of Valparaiso, a member of the student team organization the event.

Mark Michalac, also a Morgan Township graduate, rounded out the team. The trio shopped, sorted and organized a huge pile of food items into boxes that would be given to the families.

"It's good to know that some PNC families who didn't think their Thanksgiving would work out this way will have a nice meal to enjoy," said Michalac. "It's good to be a blessing to others at this time of year."
