Local Group Walks to Aid New Creation Men’s Shelter

On Sunday, March 17 the children of "Y Kids for a Cause" partook in an hour long St. Patrick's Day Walk-a-Thon to raise money for providing dinners to the New Creations Men's Shelter.

"Y Kids for a Cause" is a mission driven program that teaches children the importance of giving back to their community and being a good citizen. The "Y Kids for Cause” helps children to understand the positive impact they can have on a society through small acts like a smile or holding a door open for someone. Prior to the walk-a-thon on Sunday, the "Y Kids for a Cause" organization held a spaghetti dinner for the Men of New Creations Shelter at the Nazereth Church on Friday, March 15th.

"The kids had a wonderful time feeding the gentlemen of New Creations Men’s Shelter. Not only that, but we went grocery shopping for men. The kids got to go through the grocery store and pick out everything that would be needed for a spaghetti dinner. Us parents prepared the meal, and the kids served the men. After dinner, the men and the children played basketball and soccer together. All in all, it was a great experience for them," Y Kids for a Cause event organizer Crystal Olympidis said.

Children interested in getting involved within their community can join "Y Kids for a Cause.” You do not need to be a member of the YMCA to join. The "Y Kids for a Cause" meets the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30. Those interested in more information about the organization can call Carrie Koch for the Valparaiso YMCA at 219-462-4185 X249.
