Sticking Up for the Little Guy

Rescue-DogsDogs in need of rescue have hope for survival, thanks to help from Engstrom Jewelers. Over the past 7 months, the jewelry store has hosted fundraising watch battery sales, with all proceeds benefiting Northwest Indiana Death Row Dogs, a rescue group solely run by volunteers working to place abandoned animals into permanent homes. Over the past year and a half, the group has managed to save over 1,200 dogs.

The staff at Engstrom’s chose to support the rescue as the issue was near and dear to their hearts. “The problem is so large in Northwest Indiana,” stated Amy Perry, Assistant Manager. “The neglect and abuse of animals is very sad. We feel like they don’t have a voice.”

Here’s how it works: the store totals up all of the watch battery sales at the end of the month and donates the entire proceeds to the rescue, anywhere from $500-$1,000. The funds are used to pay for the cost of supplies to vet the dogs; McAfee Animal Hospital vets and technicians then donate their time to make sure the dogs are up to date on shots, spayed or neutered, and healthy, ready for adoption. “This puts the dogs in good shape to where they’re more likely to get adopted,” Perry explained.

Our four-legged friends are not the only ones to have benefited from the Engstrom watch battery fundraiser. Past organizations supported have included Housing Opportunities, Oklahoma tornado victims, and the Maule family. “We felt like we needed to do something. This was a way for us to make a huge impact,” said Perry.

We are very fortunate to be part of this community. We want to give back!
