Anticipation filled the ValpoLife office on Monday morning. There was a group gathered and some of the members of the group wore…Minnie Mouse ears?
Monday was the day that a drawing for a raffle that had been put together to raise money for the Valpo Wrestling Club took place. The idea for the fundraisor was a collaborative effort between the Viking Wrestling Club, the VHS Wrestling Team and the Westling Steering Comittee. They were trying to help the kids get a new wrestling room built so that they had a place to practice.
Flanagin’s Bulk Mail Service generously volunteered to have their business be the main location for ticket sales.
“Today we are drawing for our winner of our Mousetastic Raffle,” Erica George, who was in charge of coordinating the fundraiser, said. “The winner will receive a trip worth $1500 for Walt Disney World. This is to support the Valpo High School wrestlers in hopes to help them get a wrestling room at Valparaiso High School. I’m excited to see who the winner will be!”
Liz Powers, a Lady Lifer, gladly accepted the task of drawing the winning ticket from the numerous amounts that filled a box the George held out for her.
And the winner was… Kristin Anderson! Anderson gets a five day, four night stay at Walt Disney World Value Resort PLUS theme park tickets! What a lucky lady!
This is a win/win for everyone as the wrestling club gets the help they need and someone get to go to Disney World! But why a raffle for Disney World tickets?
“We decided to do this type of fundraiser because I was looking for a way to raise money and my sister stumbled upon this Mousetastic Vacation Destinations. She has a friend that works with them and they helped to get this all set up,” George said.
In the end over 300 tickets were sold and more than $6,000 was raised for the team!
