Make A Difference Today!

HO-Step-In-Step-UpHousing Opportunities is proud to announce its first-ever social media campaign "Squash the Sequester." This year, due to sequester cuts, our Emergency Shelter Grant was cut by $16,062. This cut will directly affect those families in need in our community, like the family below.

You can help us fill this gap in funding and give homeless families a place to call home! THE BEST PART? The following generous sponsors/donors have contributed to the match pool of $8,000. Their generosity means that for every online dollar you give, HO gets $2.00 so your donation goes further! Thank you to Greater Northwest Indiana Association of REALTORS®, Lakeside Wealth Management, John & Antoinette Mario, Porter-Starke Services, Inc., and Priority Home Repair.

Family Story ~ As a very young adult, barely 18, I was in a homeless situation and felt discouraged, angry, and scared. I did not know what was going to happen. I was terrified my infant son was going to be taken away from me. I had no family and was alone to figure this out for myself. I didn't know where to turn and someone told me about Housing Opportunities. I stepped in their office and applied for help. When I got the call that there was an open spot for me I was overcome with excitement. Finally I was going to be in a safe place that I could call home for myself and more importantly for my son. This was a great start for me – a home – but I was still young and all alone and didn't know how to start to make a better life for us. I was nervous to meet with my case manager from Housing Opportunities but she was so welcoming. Each time we met I felt more and more at ease and could finally see a future ahead of me. By working closely with my case manager and staff at HO I got the help I needed to become an independent person and gain the skills to be a great mom. I am now employed full-time and my son is thriving in his pre-school program. I am so thankful that HO partners with agencies in the community to reach and serve those in need. Their support services are what helped me and my son and we will always be grateful. THANK YOU – S.T.
