A Well Deserved Breakfast

The Veterans of Michigan City gathered on Monday at Horizon Bank for a lovely meal, commemorating their service to the country. Veterans of all branches were in attendance.

The Michigan City High School was also there showing support. The ROTC posted colors for the event, and the Michigan City High School band played for the veterans.

After everyone was fed, the ceremony got underway. It began with a rendition of the National Anthem, sung by Sheryl Edwards with Rose Marie Dure on piano.

Charlie Roberts, AVP and Branch Manager for Horizon Bank, had this to say, “Here at Horizon, we’re dedicated to service, and like you veterans we believe in service over self.”

Roberts then proceeded to introduce the keynote speaker for the event: Jim Stemmler, a Vietnam veteran.

“All of us who served the country basically wrote our government a blank check. A check that told our government, ‘We’re going to protect this flag and this country,'” Stemmler said.

A table, seated for one was set up just to the side of the podium. The table represented all those who gave everything to serve the nation. A moment of silence was held in remembrance of those individuals.

The event was closed out by the Michigan City High School Band playing the different songs of the armed forces. Each branch had their chance to be recognized by everyone in attendance.

On this Veterans’ Day the good people at the Horizon Bank on South Franklin Street gave back to those who have given so much to us.
