Girl Scout Leaders Applauded for Volunteering

Girl-Scouts-logoOver 500 Girl Scouts in the Valparaiso Area are would like to thank all of the volunteer adults who help them become stronger, smarter, and better young women. April 22 is the official Leader Appreciation Day but we thank them every day. During this year leaders have volunteered thousands of hours to Girl Scouting as leaders, co-leaders, product sale managers, day camp staff, trainers, and organizers all for the benefit of girl members.

Enthusiastic volunteers lead 36 Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scout troops at Central, Cooks Corners, Flint Lake, Hayes-Leonard, Memorial, Northview, Parkview, St. Paul, and Thomas Jefferson Elementary Schools in Valparaiso as well as Washington Twp. School and a Home-schooled troop. Fourteen Cadette, Senior, and Ambassadors troops from Ben Franklin Middle School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, St. Paul School, and Valparaiso High School are lead by more dedicated volunteers.

Valparaiso Area Girl Scouts are part of the Girl Scout Council of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, a United Way Agency. In the past year troops have contributed to our community in many ways including:
Donations to the Porter Co. Animal Shelter
Food drives to local Food Pantries
Fulfilled gift requests from Christmas Angel Trees
Collected soda pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House
Christmas caroling at Nursing Homes and downtown Holly Days
Donated a baby gift basket to the first baby girl born on Oct. 31st in honor of Juliette Low’s birthday (Founder of Girl Scouts in the USA)
Monetary donations to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to help girls in 3rd world countries participate in Girl Scouting.
Assisted with annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.
Donated winter coats, hats, and gloves to needy children.
Sang patriotic songs at Veteran’s Day Ceremony at the American Legion.
Participated in Clean-up days and assisted with Fun Fair activities at their local schools.

There are still many young girls who want to be Girl Scouts but have no leaders. Please consider volunteering for the world’s largest all-girl organization. For volunteer information please contact Beth Baker at 464-2418 or ammje@frontier.com
