IU Northwest to Hold Blood Drive July 24, 2014

rot1The Student Alumni Association (SAA) and Office of Alumni Relations at Indiana University Northwest are rallying to restock the shelves at area blood banks with a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, July 24 in the Moraine Student Center, located on the north end of the IU Northwest campus in Gary.

SAA members will be taking appointments from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 and Thursday, July 17 in the Moraine Student Center.

Current statistics report that someone in the U.S. needs donated blood every two seconds and more than 41,000 blood donations are needed daily. A single donated unit of blood can help save up to three lives. According to the American Red Cross, an estimated 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, but less than 10 percent actually do each year.

To sign up for the American Red Cross blood drive, visit the SAA table on July 9 or 17. Or, visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code “iun” to schedule an appointment. First-time donors will need to create a profile. Returning donors can log in by entering their e-mail address and date of birth as the default password.
