Methodist Hospitals is changing the way healthcare is delivered in Northwest Indiana not only within their own facilities, but through the Valparaiso YMCA. About a year and a half ago, Methodist Hospitals became the Healthcare Engagement Partner for the Valparaiso Family YMCA. Multiple hospitals made the offer to partner with the YMCA, but Methodist was the best fit.
"We are very involved in the community and there is a Christian base for both us and the Valpo YMCA. Our missions and visions aligned so it was a great fit," David Howe, Relationship Manager for Methodist Hospitals, explained.
Like the YMCA, Methodist Hospitals is a nonprofit organization that has a large focus on the health and wellness of its communities. The combination of the clinical and physical aspects coming from both entities makes a powerful and positive tool that the public can use to take their health and well-being into their own hands while being guided by medically trained professionals, no matter where they are in their health journeys.
"Our belief in the future of healthcare and how to get people engaged in their own health is expanded with the YMCA," Howe said. "We see people at Methodist when they require medical assistance. At the Y people come to get ahead of diseases and take control of their health. We are able to reach people at all levels."
The partnership will last for three years, and members of the Valparaiso YMCA as well as the general public have access to free screenings, free seminars, other programs designed to maintain high levels of healthy living and well-being, and the professional advice of doctors, nurses, and nutritionists from Methodist Hospitals. With over 15,000 members and deep roots in the community, the Valparaiso YMCA is the perfect place for Methodist to reach people who want to better their health.
