Porter County Coalition for Affordable Housing Fall Education Event

house-clipartOn any given day in Porter County, more than 300 adults and children are without a place to call home. The cost to provide emergency shelter is usually greater than the assistance provided in the form of transitional housing or low income rent subsidies. And the cost to our communities is usually even more when you take into account additional services for hospitalizations and medical care and/or incarceration or police intervention.

Housing First is a model that is being implemented in cities across the country to address this issue. What differentiates a Housing First approach from other strategies is that there is an immediate and primary focus on helping individuals and families quickly access and sustain permanent housing.
