Porter County Community Foundation Makes a Difference

Grants2-2014The Porter County Community Foundation is able to make a difference in Porter County through grants. “Grantmaking is one way in which we are able to leverage the generosity of our donors to have an even greater impact than any one of us could accomplish on our own,” said Barb Young, Foundation President. “While we award grants throughout the year, it always seems more special around the holidays.”

The Foundation staff has been busy these past few weeks presenting grant checks to local nonprofit organizations. “These grant recipients reflect some of the great work that is being done in our communities,” said Young.

Grants approved this cycle will provide police radios to help the Kouts Police Department to serve its community. Additional computers will enhance the capacity of Gabriel’s Horn to provide assistance for homeless women. A grant for technology expansion will help Reins of Life as they offer equine-assisted therapy sessions. And a grant to the Valparaiso Parks Foundation for ValPLAYso-The Next Generation will help ensure that children of all abilities can play together.

“None of this would be possible without the collective giving behind our work.” said Young. “Gifts of all sizes do make a difference.” The Foundation annually distributes nearly $2 million in scholarships and grants to nonprofit organizations.
