Heritage Quilt Guild Blankets St. Monica Home with Generosity

Heritage-Quilt-Guild-blankets-St-Monica-Home-with-generosityA donation of baby care items, quilts, afghans and clothing for infants and mothers recently was made to St. Monica Home, a department of Franciscan St. Margaret Health-Dyer, by the Heritage Quilt Guild of South Suburbia. The 90-member organization asked members to donate the items, many of which were handmade, at its January and February meetings. Liz Guzman-Arredondo, St. Monica manager, appreciated the gesture. “These gifts, which help both our babies and moms, are very special to St. Monica Home. It is touching to see such care from our neighbors.”

Shown, from left, are guild members Rita Pongracz (a graduate of the former St. Margaret Hospital School of Nursing) and Barb Engelbrecht; Guzman-Arredondo; and St. Monica resident adviser Cathy Malkowski. St. Monica Home, since 1994, has offered a medically sound and emotionally healthy residential environment for women aged 12 to 21, who are awaiting the birth of a child or have recently given birth. Residents, whose average length of stay is nine months, learn positive relationships and parenting skills, under the guidance of resident advisers.
