The City of Whiting Invites You to Come Paint the Town Pink and Help Fight Breast Cancer

WhitingCancerAwarenessRunWhiting, Indiana is coming together this May to help fight breast cancer, and is inviting all residents of Northwest Indiana to join them during their “Paint The Town Pink” campaign; a series of fun events in Whiting aimed to raise funds to support the Methodist Hospital Breast Health Center.

The entirely volunteer driven initiative founded by Stephanie Madison, Whiting resident and community volunteer, and Kathleen Ulm, a local business owner, has raised $40,000 over the past four years, and all of the funds raised have stayed in the local community. Methodist Hospital was chosen as the donation recipient this year because of its commitment to helping low income and un(der) insured women in Northwest Indiana get the lifesaving treatment and tests they need.

Paint The Town Pink has a ton of events throughout the month of May, providing something for people of all ages and interests to get involved with, and is highlighted by Dining Out for the Cure on May 27th.

For the exercise enthusiasts out there, the Stomp Out Cancer 5K Fun Run/Walk this Saturday, the 9th, will let you get out in the beautiful weather, explore Whiting, and have a good time for a great cause! The race starts at 10:00 A.M. at Oil Can Stadium, but get there early if you haven’t registered yet.

Next Friday is highlighted by two great events as well: the Battle of 119th Street school fundraiser, where Clark and Whiting will battle it out for who can raise the most donations, and a “Hollywood or bust” trivia night at Studio 659.

On Sunday the 17th, Northwest Indiana is invited out to the “Battlin’ for Boobies” softball tournament. The event will feature Region Signs, the Whiting Police and Fire Department, and the great staff at Clark Jr/Sr High School hitting the diamond for bragging rights. And for the fans, the event will also feature raffles, fun side games, and plenty of refreshments!

Whiting-Paint-Pink-1The first games starts at 12:30 P.M. at Whiting Municipal Sports Complex.

And if the work week next week has you needing to let out a little frustration, then you certainly do not want to miss out on “Crash the Car for Cancer” on Whiting’s Cruise Night, Wednesday May 20, from 6-9 P.M. Just $1 gets you the ultimate stress reliever, a sledgehammer, and a swing at a car. Or, if you really need to vent, you can buy 5 swings for $6.

Finally, the month culminates with the highly popular, and very cool, “Dining Out For a Cure” on Wednesday, May 27th; a true example of an entire city coming together for a cause. Everyone in The Region is invited to come get a taste of Whiting and enjoy their local eateries (listed below); who will also generously donate 10% of your bill to the Paint the Town Pink cause.

So if you’re looking to get out and about this month and enjoy spring, now that it’s finally here, come out to Whiting and have some fun and do some good.

Because, as Paint the Town Pink co-founder, Stephanie Madison, puts it:
