Valpo Shows its Support of the Valpo PD K9s at the Guardians of the Night 5K

GOTN-1Valparaiso Police Department's K-9 division hosted their annual Guardians of the Night 5K and Dog Walk on another sunny Friday evening. The run and walk, both included people of all ages.

Breaking records again this year, the event brought out more than 600 runners and walkers, said Todd Kobitz - K-9 police officer and event organizer.

“It's a nice show of support for the department and it's great to have everyone in the community come out with their dogs,” Kobitz noted.

The K-9 department is only possible due to the great support of the people in the community, and events like these that help fund the K-9 department and keep the citizens of Valparaiso safe.

GOTN-2“We have about 600 people out running and walking this evening,” Valparaiso Police Chief Mike Brickner said, “and it’s really great to see more and more people coming out for these events and supporting the K-9 division year after year.”

Keeping this program going is very important to the four officers at the Valparaiso Police Department who train, master, and utilize these dogs on a daily basis. These dogs are trained every few weeks to keep up-to-speed on the latest in narcotics detecting, and as sworn officers of the law and houseguests of their police owners, day-to-day expenses are important as well.

From seasoned 5K runners to novice dog walkers of all ages, there was a little bit of everything this evening. There was food provided by the Hungry Truck, ice cream from Valpo Velvet and tired runners/dog walkers at the end of the evening.

GOTN-3Congrats to the Valparaiso Police Department’s K-9 Division on another successful year and Guardians of the Night 5K Run/Dog Walk - looking forward to next years walk/race!
