Methodist Hospitals Volunteer Makes Holidays Bright for Babies

stockingsRecently, the newborns that came into the world at the Northlake and Southlake Campuses of Methodist Hospitals during the holiday season were given their first Christmas present: a handmade stocking.

Rose Seipelt, a volunteer at Methodist hospitals, made 24 stockings in total. It took about 80 hours to make them all; this included buying the materials, cutting, sewing, and decorating them. The stockings were divided among the two hospitals and given to new parents starting on December 23, 2015 until they ran out.

“Rose did this for the babies,” Sophia Soto, Volunteer Coordinator for Methodist Hospitals said. “She did a wonderful job and the families loved them.”

Rose is part of a sewing circle that meets every week to create handmade items that provide comfort for patients at Methodist Hospitals. The idea came from Nora Nehring, Methodist Auxiliary President, who asked Rose to make the first holiday season for new babies extra special.

“I hope they like them,” Rose said. “We had a volunteer make stockings many years ago but this is my first time making them. I think I will make them again next year.”
