David Miller, MD, left, an ear, nose and throat specialist; was one of numerous honorees at a Franciscan Health Michigan City Physician Service Awards Dinner Sept. 8 at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton. He is shown receiving a 35-year service certificate from Dean Mazzoni, hospital president and chief executive officer. Miller, who practiced more than 40 years before retiring, told colleagues that despite the many challenges physicians face in their practices, “it is worth it in the long run to our society and to those we serve.”
He added, “Sometimes it can be a struggle, so you have to stay engaged and continue the charge, because you’re all needed. Medicine is still the greatest profession because of what we can do for our community and mankind.” Mazzoni thanked Miller and the audience members for their efforts. Among his remarks, he said, “You’re making a positive difference in the lives of others, with your dedication, service and commitment to the community and to the hospital. Thank you, from the Sisters (of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration) and the hospital administrative team, for your years of service.” Among other speakers were Anil Chawla, MD, hospital vice president of medical affairs, who emceed the event; and Matthew Troy, MD, medical staff president. Besides Miller, 42 other physicians were honored, for 30, 25, 20, 15, 10 and five years of service.
