Volunteers give more than just their time and energy for the community. They show compassion, love, and hope to people all around who need it most. So every year, Rittenhouse Village of Valparaiso does the same for them and gives back to volunteers who are going above and beyond for their community.

Rittenhouse Village of Valparaiso held their annual Volunteer Appreciation Day Wednesday afternoon. Volunteers from around the region attended the event honoring their hard work and dedication to organizations like Life Care Centers of Valparaiso, Porter County Aging and Community Services, the Boys & Girls Club, and many more.

“We do a Volunteer Appreciation Lunch to honor local volunteers every year,” said Natalie Reisen, Senior Lifestyle Counselor for Rittenhouse Village. “We like to invite all local volunteers from Lake and Porter County to come out and have a nice lunch prepared by our Executive Chef and receive a gift for their hard work.”

Rittenhouse Village of Valparaiso was founded in 2009 and offers assisted living and memory care for seniors in need of care and assistance with daily needs. Just like with every organization in the region, volunteers are vital to the care and well-being Rittenhouse Village provides, which is something that couldn’t go unappreciated.

“It is important for us to honor those who give back to the community that we love,” Reisen said. “We just want to thank everyone for coming today and for all of the service that they do for our community.

Along with a delicious lunch, door prizes, and live piano music, the co-sponsor of the event for the past six years, Life Care Centers of Valparaiso, provided the appreciation gift for every volunteer, a handled travel mug with the inspirational message, “Caring comes naturally for volunteers like you. We are so grateful for everything you do!”

“Volunteers are the heart and soul of everything,” said Cathy Ellis, Marketing Director for Life Care Centers. “We want to give back to and celebrate them since they have given so much of themselves to others.”

Together, Rittenhouse Village and Life Care Centers of Valparaiso reached out to over 200 volunteers from a variety of organizations. One of those volunteers, Gail Galvan, is no stranger to giving back to the community and has been involved with organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, and most recently, the Porter County Aging and Community Services, which is partnered with United Way.

“I was a licensed nurse for years, but I had to leave because of health problems,” Galvan said. “So volunteering as a tutor for the Boys and Girls Club or PCACS is a way for me to continue helping people around the community.” Volunteers go above and beyond for their communities and people in need, and Rittenhouse Village of Valparaiso is dedicated to making sure every volunteer knows how important and respected their work is.
