2017 Stuff-A-Bus Efforts Secures Amazing Results for the Michigan City Salvation Army Food Pantry!

Stuff-A-Bus-Michigan-City-Salvation-Army-Food-Pantry-2017_01The Salvation Army, Al’s Supermarkets, Michigan City School Corporation, WEFM Radio, WIMS Radio, and First Trust Credit Union once again joined forces to hold their annual STUFF-A-BUS food drive on Saturday, September 9th. This year’s efforts marked the 14th year of the community coming together to help those in need, and results were AMAZING despite closing of the railroad tracks (for repairs) at US Hwy 20 and N. Karwick Road.

Volunteers from the Salvation Army, Michigan City High School ROTC, Michigan City High School bus drivers, Michigan City student National Honor Society, and First Trust Credit Union employees and their family members joined Al’s employees encouraging grocery shoppers to donate $5 to purchase a meat voucher, or a bag of pre-packed groceries for a family in need. Live remotes from WEFM 95.9 and WIMS AM 1420 radio celebrities added to the overall excitement of the day. Over 300 hungry families rely on the Michigan City Salvation Army food pantry to help stretch their food budget each and every month.

In addition, WIMS AM 1420 radio not only came out to support the cause with a live radio broadcast, but also gave a $5,000 in-kind donation for radio time to The Salvation Army as well. Several local businesses came out and gave generous monetary donations, including Michigan City Exchange Club, Current Electric, and Carlson’s Drive-In. Three Sheets Bar & Grill donated 15 pre-packaged bags of food and 15 meat vouchers. Other businesses and residents in the community, who requested to remain anonymous, also made food and monetary donations.
