several-earn-master-recycler-certificationsNine individuals recently completed their volunteer requirements to join the ranks of the Porter County Certified Master Recyclers. The group was recognized in front of the Porter County Recycling & Waste Reduction Board at its last meeting on Aug. 14.

Each of the individuals successfully completed the classes and 30 volunteer hours that included educating the public or setting up recycling programs: From Valparaiso, James Beversdorf, Heidi Koselke, Edward Engelsen, Dale Sandquist and Sharon Angelina; from Portage, Adele Szymanski; from Porter, Samantha Joll; from Winfield, Andre Manzo; and from LaCrosse, Deborah Smith.

“Master Recyclers have been instrumental in helping us get the message out about recycling and waste reduction,” said Donna Stuckert, program coordinator. “They help us at events that the district attends and hosts; educate people in their lives and groups they belong to; and come up with new ways to help reduce waste and recycle more.”

The next Master Recycler class will begin Sept. 13 for six weekly classes in Valparaiso. The program also includes tours to a recycling sorting facility and a landfill, so students can learn more about what happens to their recyclables and waste once they leave the curb.

Anyone who lives or works in Porter County can register for the class online at www.PorterCountyRecycling.org. For more information, call 465-3819.
