Once again the community is rallying behind the youth in Porter County,” said Laurie Griffith, Volunteer Coordinator for United Way of Porter County. “The Power of Youth Council is so grateful for every contribution and we are excited about this upcoming event and the opportunity for youth of all ages to be able to VOICE their needs.”

By hosting the “Walk For Awareness,” the Power of Youth Council hopes to engage youth of all ages in Porter County as well as adults. The money raised will be awarded to local nonprofits with programs that address teen substance abuse prevention and early treatment in Porter County. The walk will be an early evening walk held on June 7, 2010 starting at 5 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. The walkers will gather near 3176 Lancer St. in Portage.
