Four Local Nonprofits to Receive Grants From The Power of Youth

Valparaiso Parks and Recreation, the Visiting Nurse Association, the Portage YMCA, and Discoveries Unlimited will be receiving grants from the United Way of Porter County’s Power of Youth on Thursday, July 28th at the 2010 Porter County Fair. The allocation ceremony, The Power of Giving, will be held in the Grand Stand from 6:30 pm to 7:15 pm.

The Power of Youth Council chose the four recipient nonprofits for successfully implementing programs that help prevent teen substance abuse. Summer day camps hosted by Valparaiso Parks and Recreation, the Visiting Nurses Association’s youth bereavement program, the mentoring of adolescent girls in the field of science with Discoveries Unlimited, and the Afternoon R.O.C.K.’s anti-drug program at the Portage YMCA will all benefit from the allocated grants.

If you wish to meet the 2009-2010 Power of Youth Council, come to the Power of Giving allocation ceremony on July 28th 2010 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Grandstand or stop by the United Way of Porter County’s Silent Auction tent at the 2010 Porter County Fair anytime during the fair.

Currently the Power of Youth Council is looking for representatives from Hebron, Kouts, Boone Grove, Morgan Township, and Washington Township high schools for the 2010-2011 school year.
