We are beggars. I've been repeating this quote from Martin Luther a lot lately both to myself and to all of you. It is a reminder that we need God desperately. I felt that on Sunday as we gathered around a young couple, Jon and Lexie, to pray for them as they battle Jon's cancer together. Tears filled my eyes as I watched them worship that morning—hearts filled with hope—praying for God to make his face shine upon them.
Sunday is still with me because I can't get out of my mind the beautiful picture of God's people physically coming together around two people—hands lifted and hearts begging. This is the church! This is community. We are not just beggars, we are a community of beggars praying for each other (James 5:14-16), encouraging each other (1 Thes. 5:11), comforting each other (2 Cor. 1:3-4), and counseling each other (Gal. 6:2).
I am so thankful for this community. We need God and we need each other. Let's get together again on Sunday! And between Sundays, encourage each other—do something with a friend or send an uplifting text or note. One of the ways that God blesses beggars is through the community of beggars.
