Valparaiso University Design Expo 2024 to Showcase Creative Technology and Partnerships

Valparaiso University’s College of Engineering will host the 2024 Engineering Design Expo on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gellersen Center and Fites Innovation Center. A variety of teams from across engineering majors will present their work to friends, family, and the community. The event is free and open to the public.

“Our engineering students spend hundreds of hours of work on their senior design projects while applying all the skills and knowledge acquired throughout their journey to their degree,” said Georges El-Howayek, Ph.D., assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering. “The Expo allows the students to share their accomplishments with our community and celebrate their achievements.”

Projects at the Expo span the different disciplines in the college of engineering and students learn how to perform in multidisciplinary teams. These skills promote the kind of interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving that Valparaiso University is proud to encourage across its varied programs.

Ideas showcased at the expo include a variety of devices that improve tasks in a wide variety of areas, including athletics and health care. This year’s projects include an improved batter’s eye net system for Emory G. Bauer Field that can be raised and lowered in minutes by a single facilities team member, and a mechanically-accurate model of a human forearm that will be used for teaching purposes by the College of Nursing and Health Professions’ Occupational Therapy program.
