Frontline’s Hooked on Art Festival Sends Message of Hope, Recovery from Addiction

Hooked-on-Art-2013-1Frontline Foundation’s Hooked on Art – Live Street Art Festival attracted thousands on Saturday, September 28 with a message of hope and recovery from drug addiction. The Festival held at Thomas Centennial Park in Downtown Chesterton highlighted live street art, unique shopping opportunities, and music.

Yet Frontline, a substance abuse treatment provider with offices in Chesterton and Valparaiso, knows the purpose behind Hooked on Art was more than hosting a community art festival.

People are talking about the hope of recovery from drug addiction and substance abuse,” said Frontline Founder and Executive Director Amber Hensell-Hicks. “Our message is clear: Addiction doesn’t have to be a life sentence and the artwork from our clients in recovery attests to this fact.”

Hooked-on-Art-2013-2Beyond live street art from national and regional artists, Hooked on Art featured client artwork from Frontline’s Art Recovery Program where over 30 pieces sold through silent auction. Proceeds throughout the day supported Frontline client scholarships to provide substance abuse treatment resources for the community.

Among the fundraising opportunities was Lakeshore Motor’s Drive 4 UR Community campaign. For each person who test drove a new Ford vehicle, a $20 donation was made from Ford Motors. The Hooked on Art Festival push helped Frontline to reach their Drive campaign goal of $6,000.

We are unbelievably blessed by the outpouring of community support for Frontline’s Hooked on Art Festival,” said Hensell-Hicks. “Frontline is grateful for each of the volunteers, artists, and vendors who participated at this year’s event to support client treatment scholarships.
