Renewing the Region Extended through July 21, 2014

NewSouthShoreCVA-logoRenewing the Region, an exhibit featuring art from recycled and repurposed objects, will be showcased at the Indiana Welcome Center through Monday, July 21.

Exhibit items include a diverse display of art, with blacksmithing, china painting and antique pieces as well as restored, refurbished and renewed pieces.

According to Speros A. Batistatos, president and CEO of the South Shore CVA, the exhibit, which is sponsored by Lake County Solid Waste District, debuted at the Indiana Welcome Center in 2001 as “Trash to Treasure.” In 2011, the exhibit transitioned to highlight fashionable items made from recycled materials in “Trashion.” This year, the exhibit transformed into “Renewing the Region.”

“The exhibit really pushes the idea of conservation and recycling,” explained Batistatos. “Visitors may leave feeling inspired to take old pieces of furniture and decor and turn them into refreshed, renewed items that can be cherished for years to come.”

The Indiana Welcome Center is open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is located at 7770 Corinne Drive, Hammond, Indiana 46323. Renewing the Region is free to visitors.
